Former First Lady, MAUREEN MWANAWASA has died.
Dr. MWANAWASA died at Maina Soko Medical Centre this evening after an illness.
Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA confirmed the death of the Former First Lady at a media briefing tonight.
Mr. KAWANA said that President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and First Lady MUTINTA HICHILEMA have expressed shock and regret and have since called the family to pass their sincere condolences.
Mr. KAWANA said that the funeral gathering is at Dr. MWANAWASA’s Residence in LUSAKA’s Roma Park area.
He said that more details on the funeral will be availed in due course.
Dr. MWANAWASA was the spouse to the late third President, Dr. LEVY MWANAWASA.
She served as the First Lady of Zambia from 2002 to 2008.
