The BASE 101 team had the pleasure of sitting down with Kanina Kandalama to discuss her latest single, “Ready,” featuring rising star Xain. Before diving into the conversation, we congratulated her on the successful release of the song. Kanina graciously accepted our congratulations, and we proceeded with our questions.
The inspiration behind the song “Ready” featuring Xain and how is the reception from fans?
“Based on the song’s themes and style, I was drawn to Xain’s unique voice and style, which complements my own artistry,” Kanina explained. “There’s something about the way Xain’s voice blends with mine that adds a new dimension to the song. I think our styles mesh really well, and I was excited to see how our voices would come together on ‘Ready’ and its actually our song together” She added.
Regarding the reception of “Ready” from her fans, Kanina expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support. Fans have been praising the song’s catchy melody and the chemistry between Kanina and Xain. The song’s music video, directed by Sticka and produced by King Nachi, has also been well-received, with many appreciating the visually stunning and sonically captivating elements, and the fans requesting for more music.
Can you tell us a bit about your upcoming EP, what theme or messages are you exploring in this new body of work?
“Oh, okay, so the EP was supposed to drop this year, but I’m still thinking – I’ll just see with time,” Kanina Kandalama explained, her tone laced with uncertainty. “With only three months left, I’m not sure if that’s enough time for me to finalize everything. To be honest, I’m just not certain about dropping it this year. There’s a part of me that wants to rush it out the door, but another part that’s hesitant to compromise on the quality,” she added.
“The theme of this EP is really about mixed emotions – it talks about different topics, lifestyle, love,” Kanina Kandalama shared, giving us a glimpse into the inspiration behind her upcoming project. When asked if she had come up with a name for the EP, Kanina smiled slyly and said, “I can tell you now and then change it later, so I can only tell you when I’m certain.”
It seems Kanina is keeping her options open, wanting to finalize the title when she’s sure it perfectly captures the essence of the EP. This approach suggests she’s meticulous about her art and wants every detail to be just right. We look forward to hearing more about the EP and its title when the time is right.
Are you aiming to feature established artists or underground talent on your EP?
“For me, it doesn’t matter whether someone is underground or established,” Kanina Kandalama explained. “I just see who fits on the song. I don’t look at numbers; I look at the talent. At the end of the day, it’s about creating something good. If an underground artist brings the right energy and vibe to the track, I’m all for it. Similarly, if an established artist can add value to the song, I’d love to collaborate with them. It’s all about making music that resonates,” she said.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing right now?
“If I weren’t a musician, I think I’d be working in a hospital,” Kanina Kandalama reflected. “My parents had always encouraged me to study nursing, so I guess I’d be pursuing that path. I’d likely be working in a healthcare setting, helping people and making a difference in their lives.” She paused, imagining an alternate life scenario. “And, well, I guess I’d probably be married by now, too. Life would be quite different, but who knows?

“Expect more good videos from me,” Kanina Kandalama promises with a smile. “You know, Kanina is all about good quality. I’m always pushing myself to create content that’s visually stunning and resonates with my audience.” She leans in, excitement building in her voice. “And you can also expect to see me performing at more shows. I’m looking forward to taking my music to different venues and connecting with fans in new ways.”
